Having only separated from Citroen about two years ago, there has been a lot of discussion surrounding what exactly DS planned on doing with their new-found autonomy and how long it would take them. Well, DS have just released details of four new SUVs and a brand-new hybrid supercar which might well send a few shivers down the spines of some big players such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi.
DS 7 Crossback

The DS 7 Crossback is the first of the models and will get its official debut at the upcoming 2017 Geneva Motor Show this month. The few details that have emerged, as well as photographs circulating the internet, suggest that it is a visually stunning SUV with a remarkably well-designed interior which will essentially challenge existing models such as the popular Audi Q5 in the luxury SUV marketplace.
DS 3 Crossback
The DS 3 Crossback, the slightly less aggressive-looking little sister of the DS 7, displays many of the high-end qualities of the DS 7 but will be a less expensive model. It is also going to be featured at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show with both models expected to go on sale early next year.
DS 5

The DS 5 is a handsome if not slightly more conservative-looking hatchback, proudly displaying its original Citroen DS heritage. Part coupe, part sports estate, perhaps even part family saloon, it is slightly difficult to pin down but that is not an inherently bad thing. The vehicle looks to be impeccably designed and thought out, however, and whilst it might not be quite the giant-killer the DS 7 is, it remains unique and certainly packs a good punch for its price.
DS Hybrid Supercar

The DS hybrid supercar, however, is another kettle of fish altogether. It is perhaps comparable to the BMW i8 and is no doubt part E-Tense, the DS concept car that sent jaws to the ground at the Geneva Motor Show two years ago. It features 600bhp hybrid plug-in technology, autonomous capabilities and is so devastatingly handsome it risks reducing everything else that happens this year to a footnote.
There was concern and doubt as to how serious a contender DS would be once they had decided to go it alone. Their concepts, however, have been beautifully brought together, married with up-to-date technology and with more than enough reasons to tempt car buyers of BMWs, Audis and Mercedes.

McLaren’s latest supercar to go on sale in May
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comMcLaren’s new super series model the 720s goes on sale this May, with the carmaker promising the vehicle will redefine ‘expectations of supercar excellence’. The 720s debuted at the 2017 Geneva Motorshow and will supercede the McLaren 620s, building and improving upon nearly every element of its predecessor.
Source : McLaren
It will be the first model of fifteen new generation McLaren’s scheduled for release between now and 2022 as part of a Track 22 development plan by CEO Mike Flewitt, with half of these new vehicles to be hybrids. There are 400 units of the 720s launch edition, all of which have been sold, and McLaren is anticipating sales of 1200 720s supercars for 2017 and 1500 for 2018.
McLaren is increasingly regarded as an insurgent force in the supercar market, and a threat to Ferrari’s long-standing prominence in the sector. Total sales at McLaren surpassed 10,000 units in the last 5 years, and the company has committed to a doubling of its 2016 levels of production.
Source : McLaren
The 720s entry price will be 950,000 UAED, and the car features a 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8, producing 710 bhp with 41 percent of the engine components being new. An 11 percent increase in power is complemented by reductions in mass to create what McLaren claims to be segment-topping performance – 0-90 kmh in 2.8 sec, 0-200 kmh in 7.8 sec, top speed of 341 kmh and quarter mile coverage in 10.3 seconds.
Source : McLaren
It will also showcase an innovative double skin door design which McLaren claims to eliminate any need for side air scoops – a design element that has hitherto been considered essential in the lexicon of supercar design. The double skin channels allow cooling air to flow through into the engine bay, leading to a 15 percent enhancement in cooling airflow.
3 cars perfectly suited to the UAE climate
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comWith temperatures averaging 36°C, the climate in the United Arab Emirates can be inhospitable at times. Despite thriving infrastructure and some of the best irrigation engineering in the world, swathes of the country are naturally characterised by an unrelentingly arid desert climate which is subjected to searing heat in the daytime and severe temperature drops in the evening.
When it comes to long-distance transportation in UAE, it’s important to choose a car that offers reliability, off-road capabilities, plenty of storage space and a great air conditioning system in order to make the hours spent in the vehicle that little bit more enjoyable.
With these criteria in mind, we’ve selected our favorite models for UAE car buyers to traverse the climate in style and comfort:
Subaru Forester
For decades, Subaru has long had a good reputation for offering powerful performance and exceptional traction in all conditions, and the Forester is no exception. The latest model features a 6-speed manual transmission coupled with an all-wheel drive system. Despite having plenty to offer in terms of sheer brute force, the Subaru Forester is surprisingly light, and with nearly 9 inches of ground clearance, it’s perfect for rocky terrains.
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited 2016
This Wrangler is perfect – almost like it’s been specifically designed for a desert adventure. Featuring an extra-long wheelbase, large axles, a removable front sway bar and locking differentials, it’s more than equipped for what the terrain of the UAE can throw at it. With an extra-large interior and four doors, it’s fair to say that Jeep has created a truly family-friendly vehicle here.
Mercedes-Benz G-Class
Don’t be fooled by the idea that the G-Class is the preserve of parents in the Hollywood Hills doing the school run; it’s actually a competent sports utility vehicle. Of course, the prowess of the G-Class has long been cemented across the UAE, where car buyers have been impressed by its distance-running capabilities, even in rough terrain. Perhaps the only downfall is that the G-Class tends to use a lot of fuel – so bring a jerry can to avoid getting caught out.
The Range Rover Velar is here. And it’s going to be a big hit
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comSix years after the enormously successful Range Rover Evoque hit the market, the British marque has unveiled its next future star: the Velar. Created to rival the Porsche Macan and BMW X6, the new model looks set to sell in big numbers. Priced from just over 200,000AED – although, as ever, a few minutes with the options list will boost that price considerably – the Velar sits in the middle of the range. It resembles the 275,000AED Range Rover Sport more closely than the Evoque, with sleek, futuristic styling and a luxurious interior. It’s only a few centimeters shorter than the Sport too.

A wide range of engine specifications will be available. Drivers conscious of their environmental footprint can opt for a four-cylinder diesel, which produces 178bhp but only 142g/km in CO2 emissions. There’s a V6 diesel which delivers 296 bhp and a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds, while the petrol option is a full-fat, 3.0 supercharged V6 which produces a massive 375bhp. The most powerful engine will take the Velar from 0-60 in just 5.3 seconds and all the way on to 250kmph. It will, however, cost around 380,000AED for this model, well above the entry-level price for the Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover.
It promises to be an extremely versatile machine, sharing both the bling factor and the off-road capability of its bigger brother. Even the most basic model comes with 18-inch alloys, key-less entry and heated seats. It will be at home in the dirt too, able to wade through more than half a meter of water.
Inside, the toys include two HD touchscreens and an all-new infotainment system unique to Land Rover. You can use the screens together or separately, while there’s also the option to purchase a full-color head up display. It’s a clever car; the Velar can be programmed to follow the vehicle in front at low speeds and will apply emergency braking in the event of an imminent accident.
Due on sale in 2018, the Velar is available to pre-order from Land Rover dealerships today.
A glimpse at the new Mercedes AMG GT concept
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comAs we have already discussed in previous blogs, the 2017 Geneva Motor Show looks set to be one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year. Not only will DS be rolling out their new models, Porsche will be displaying their 2018 Panamera and Mercedes are expected to reveal their latest AMG GT concept.
The 4 litre V8 engine and huge diffuser at the rear of the GT concept is suggestive that performance will be a key selling point of the model, while the increased use of aluminium and high strength steel is likely to considerably reduce the overall weight of the car. We can therefore expect improved handling and drive quality as well as economy. There is expected to be a choice between two engine models including the S 4matic+ and the E63 S 4matic+, which was capable of kicking out over 600bhp.
AMG seem to be able to do nothing wrong right now, their sales figures show that they are taking a considerable bite out of the sales of similar cars such as Porsche and BMW. Their existing 31 different models are set to increase to 48, but with that rate of expansion comes a risk of taking their eyes off the ball. The AMG GT concept is an exciting looking car at this stage, but whether it will help keep AMG ahead of the game remains to be seen. We should know a lot more after the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The 3 fastest cars money can buy
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comWhen looking for a new car, most car buyers weigh up many different considerations such as the initial cost, fuel efficiency, insurance costs and whether or not they can fit a full set of golf clubs in the back comfortably. New cars are becoming faster, more fuel efficient and generally larger, as that is what the general public seem to be looking for.
If however you only have one consideration and that consideration is speed, these are the three cars you will be looking at.
The Hennessey Venom GT
Essentially a Lotus chassis with a 1244hp 7 litre turbo-charged V8 engine, the Venom GT reaches speeds that can only be described as maniacal. The Venom GT managed a 434.5kmph top speed last year at the Kennedy Space Centre (where else?) but due to only travelling in one direction fell foul of the Guinness World Record rules. So although it is technically the world’s fastest production car, you won’t find it in your Guinness Book of World Records yet.
The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
This is what happens when someone says “let’s build the fastest car in the world”. The Veyron looks like a rubber bullet and is capable of travelling almost twice as fast at 431kmph. This is achieved with a quad-turbo-charged W16 engine that churns out approximately 1000hp. Expect to pay around $1.7m dollars for one of your own, or consider the Grand Sport Vitesse model which is the fastest open topped car capable of hurtling you towards your destination at an eye-watering 408kmph.
SSC Ultimate Aero
Shelby SuperCars (SSC) appeared out of nowhere in 2007, boasting that it had created the fastest car in the world, beating then fastest Veyron Super Sport. The twin-turbo-charged V8 6.3 liter engine kicks out 1287hp, achieving a top speed of 421kmph. The maddest thing about the Ultimate Aero was the absence of any sort of technology to help control or tame the immense power of the engine. It is pure, raw power and in the wrong hands simply a super-sonic death.
These cars go far beyond what most of us would consider to be luxury cars, they are supercars produced for people with an appetite for danger and wallets to match. Not everyone who could theoretically choose to buy any car in the world would choose one of these – but some of us would!

The 2017 Geneva Motor Show Stars
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comThe annual Geneva Motor Show has become one of the most important dates for car enthusiasts and car buyers. Here European car manufacturers get to show off their latest models which will be rolling onto our roads over the next twelve months. Every year is special but 2017 promises to be particularly special for these reasons:
Citroen DS 7
Having only split from Citroen two years ago, DS is set to launch its very first standalone model. The DS 7 is a premium SUV that is likely to be doing battle with the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 among others for a foot place in a highly competitive market niche. Early leaked pictures of the DS 7 look very promising but there is a lot still unknown about the car, particularly regarding what’s beneath the bonnet.
The Ford Fiesta ST
Motor shows are not all about mad concept cars and the latest six-figure priced behemoths. Ford Fiestas have been gracing our roads for the last forty years and have always filled an important part of the market. The new Fiesta ST will feature a brand new 200 PS 3 cylinder 1.5 Ecoboost engine alongside a tight face-lift and some exciting new technology thrown in. What we have seen suggests this should be a very exciting little car.
The Hyundai i30 Tourer
Not a car that is likely to send many pulses racing, the i30 has a reputation for being a rather conservative choice of car. That is offset, however, with its reputation for being incredibly reliable, very reasonably priced and handling very well for a car of its class. The new Tourer model will present growth into new areas for the i30 and is likely to inject some increased competition.
The Honda Civic Type R
In 2016, Honda unveiled a monstrously aggressive shaped concept hatchback that impressed us all with its barbaric beauty. A production model is set to be unveiled this year in Geneva that, rumour has it, will be largely unchanged. The turbocharged 2-litre engine kicking out almost 350bhp powered Type R is expected to be launched at about €35,000 making it certain to leave quite an impression.
Other notable launches include the McLaren 720S luxury supercar, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet, the latest Range Rover and the sporty new Alpine A120. We will, of course, keep you updated on events.
Introducing the 2018 Porsche Panamera
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comIt’s around this time of the year, prior to the highly anticipated Geneva Motor Show, that car buyers with an eye on luxury cars find their pulses racing. This year Porsche are expected to debut their new Panamera Turbo and there is an understandable buzz surrounding it right now. The 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid appears to be once again upping the ante in the world of hybrid technology. The pace of progress in hybrid super-cars has been pretty outstanding in recent years, yet Porsche’s new offering could set another new benchmark.
The 14.1kw thirteen prismatic lithium-ion battery cells on two levels with it’s own dedicated cooling circuit allows the Panamera to travel roughly 31 miles on electricity alone with a low end torque capable of propelling it to 96mph in roughly 3.2 seconds. If you were to keep your foot down you could expect to reach a top speed of over 305kmph.
Visually however, very little has changed as the improvements to the new 2018 Panamera are predominantly technologically geared towards increased power and superior efficiency. Porsche continue to punch above their weight and many people expect the 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid to be a success and help further propel the evolution of luxury hybrid cars.
Electric luxury car launches at World Government Summit
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comThe latest news in transportation in UAE is that the world’s first electric luxury car is now on sale!
Infrastructure investment
Of course, with a purely electric car, there will have to be charging points available all over the region and Musk is set to invest tens of millions of dollars in implementing the required infrastructure.
Super stations open
There are already two “super-charging” stations already open in Dubai and another in Masdar City, with five more planned by the end of 2017. The cars can be charged at home, which takes a few hours depending on the supply available; most people charge their cars overnight.
But the super-charging stations can charge a Tesla in a matter of minutes and will alert you on your smartphone when the car is ready. It’s this sort of widespread support that will make electric cars more appealing.
There are also “destination” charging points in 26 hotels and shopping malls in the UAE. These operate at rates closer to the home charging units, but the cars can be left while you are shopping or if you’re on an overnight stay.
Fastest electric car
The Tesla Model S accelerates to 100km/h in 2.7 seconds and can go for over 600km on each full charge. The Model X is a larger 4×4 SUV-style luxury car which can seat up to seven adults and reaches 100km/h in 31 seconds.
Prices start from Dh275,000 for the S and Dh344,000 for the X. Customers can already customise and order their Model S or X at the dedicated online platform – just go on to the Tesla website and select UAE from the country locator.
