With such stunning scenery, the UAE is a haven for anyone who truly loves to drive. While there’s a booming new and used car market within the UAE itself, you may find the car of your dreams abroad and want to import it. That’s great!
Here’s what you need to remember.
Before you begin
There are a series of checks you need to make sure you have passed before you start the process. Firstly, the car must be left-hand drive for safety reasons, and under ten years old. If it’s over ten years old, it’ll need inspection and verification with the Road and Transport Authority.
You must also be a registered UAE citizen, with a valid visa and a current local driver’s licence.
Once your car arrives
The paperwork you will need includes the original sales invoice for a record of both the make and model, as well as the estimated value of the car. A certificate of origin is necessary for confirmation of the country the car has been imported from, along with all of your documentation too.
This includes original copies of your passport, visa, and driving license, along with receipts for both shipping and customs fees you may have paid.
Inspection and payments
With all that taken care of, the car will then be inspected. Following this, an upfront payment of 5% of the car’s value will be required in duty fees, along with payment for the clearance inspection.
After that, you should receive a pair of export plates for the front and rear of your vehicle.
Getting on the road
Vehicular inspection follows at an RTA-approved testing centre, to ensure the vehicle is in roadworthy condition. For this, your passport, ID, driving licence, customs and import papers will be required. Once the vehicle has been deemed roadworthy, you’ll be able to register and insure it to drive.
Ideally, get the vehicle insured before you register it. For registration, you will need a filled-in application form, proof of residency, your vehicle’s customs and inspection paperwork, and your export plates.
With that done, the beautiful roads of the UAE are now yours to explore!
Hyundai’ Santa Fe In Dubai Reveiwed
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comIn 2001, Hyundai launched the Santa Fe, an SUV which has for the length of its life catered to a very specific section of buyers who are looking for something very specific from their vehicle. If you want something rugged, reliable, and affordable without too many extra bells and whistles, the Santa Fe was for you.
After the previous generation failed to capture the imagination of the Middle East, resulting in a decreased market share, Hyundai is hoping to attract new buyers to the Santa Fe’s latest incarnation.
A modern re-design
The latest generation Santa Fe is first and foremost a very attractive vehicle. The Santa Fe has never been known historically for its looks, in fact it’s been lucky that most buyers have bought it for its usability and reliability because you’d never even begin to consider one for its beauty.
Hyundai seems to have remedied this with the new Santa Fe, giving it a new sleek and handsome style as part of the design language that is appearing throughout its model range. Don’t be fooled into thinking the new Santa Fe is now all about looking good, however.
Functionality remains excellent with comfortable seating and excellent all round visibility, making the Santa Fe perfect for anyone who regularly takes long trips. Safety features are also present thanks to the SmartSense package, containing useful options like Blind Spot Assist and Collision Warning.
The engines
The Santa Fe will be available throughout the Middle East with a choice of two different engines. First is a 2.4 litre four cylinder unit that has 172 horsepower, which is mated to a six speed automatic gearbox and a choice of front or all-wheel drive.
The second is a 3.5 litre V6 which has a much more impressive 280 horsepower and benefits from a quicker shifting 8 speed gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard. This makes the new Hyundai Santa Fe more than capable of blasting comfortably along the Middle East’s long, open highways.
One thing is certain, the 2019 Santa Fe has style to spare.
Audi’s A7 Sportback is available now throughout UAE
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comThe Audi A7 Sportback is a highly appealing car that is guaranteed to satisfy a variety of needs in new car buyers throughout the UAE. It’s a fantastic blend of excellent good looks, a rewarding drive, superb build quality and a high-class image, all of which is married to a genuinely practical design.
If you’re looking for a new car that will impress you every time you go near it, the new Audi A7 Sportback may just be for you.
What the A7 Sportback offers
The key feature of the Audi A7 Sportback is that while it looks like a low-slung blend of a saloon and a coupe, it is in fact a genuine hatchback. That means you get a beautiful aesthetic, without sacrificing any usability or practicality, indeed the new A7 Sportback has 535 litres of carrying capacity.
MMI Navigation and the MMI sound system are available as standard, while customers looking for some more features have the opportunity to upgrade to MMI Navigation Plus in the options list. This, along with a host of other safety and connectivity options, mean that there’s a lot to be had for your money.
New hybrid drive
In the interest of developing increased fuel efficiency, the new Audi A7 will come with a hybrid system. It’s nothing that will require fussing with cables and charge points however, instead it’s an electrically operated system that uses clever engine management and battery technology to decrease fuel consumption.
A Belt Alternated Starter means that when travelling anywhere from 55 kph to 160 kph, the engine itself can actually be turned off and then on again when necessary, completely seamlessly, allowing it to achieve 0.7 litres per 100 km better fuel economy than its predecessor.
The engine itself is a 3.0 V6 that has 340 horsepower mated to a seven speed DCT to provide seamless and highly responsive gear changes whether you’re driving the car in the city or opening it up on sweeping country roads.
The middle east will get one trim level, 55 TFSI, which carries a price tag inclusive of VAT of AED 315,000.
Dubai has more cars per capita than New York and London
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comA recent survey has revealed that Dubai has one of the highest vehicle densities in the world. There are more cars on the streets of Dubai than in many of the planet’s largest cities. There are currently 1.4 million vehicles in the UAE’s most famous city. What’s more, the number of cars in the Emirate has risen dramatically in recent years. At the end of 2006, there were just 740,000 cars in Dubai, meaning that the number has doubled over the past eight years.
The number of vehicles has grown by an average of 8.2% every year since 2006, which is one of the fastest rates of growth in the world. According to Nasser Abu Shehab (the Roads and Transport Authority’s Director of Strategic Transport Planning), the number of vehicles in Dubai could “reach around 2.22 million in the year 2020” if cars continue to enter the city at the current rate.
In our previous blog entry, we mentioned that Dubai has a vehicle density of 540 cars per 1,000 people. This means that, relative to the size of its population, Dubai has more cars than London (which has 213 vehicles per 1,000 people) or even New York (which has 305 vehicles per 1,000 people).
But what does all this mean for ordinary Dubai motorists? On the plus side, Dubai is one of the most motor-friendly cities on Earth. Thanks to the sheer number of vehicles that the Emirate has to accommodate, there are plenty of places to refuel and park. However, the large number of vehicles also means that traffic jams and busy roads are a part of daily life. That’s why we believe it’s important to have a comfortable vehicle that can help negate the stress of driving on crowded roads and getting stuck in traffic.
If your current vehicle isn’t quite right for driving in Dubai, we can help. Here at Simply Car Buyers, we specialise in buying old cars so that sellers can afford to purchase new ones. You can sell any car to us via our website. Why not find out how much you could get for your current vehicle today? You can put the money towards a car that’s perfectly suited to the hectic streets of Dubai.
UAE Ministry of Interior launches smart app for international drivers
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comUAE motorists who want to drive abroad should be pleased to learn that it will now be easier to obtain an international driving license. The Emirates’ Ministry of Interior has partnered with the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE to make applying for an international driving license as fast and straightforward as possible. The two organisations have launched an online ‘smart service’ that will allow drivers to apply for their international licenses through an app or via the Ministry of Interior’s website. Until recently, UAE drivers had to fill out complicated forms in order to get their international licenses. The ‘smart service’ should help to streamline the process and empower motorists to get their licenses with much less fuss. Drivers can easily provide all the information needed to get their international licenses using the service and even receive those licenses electronically.
The United Arab Emirates is a nation of drivers. For example, the city of Dubai has a vehicle density of 540 cars per 1,000 people, making it one of the world’s most motor-centric cities. It’s natural for UAE residents to want to continue driving when they travel abroad, so the new smart service is likely to have a positive impact on thousands of travel-minded motorists.
Brigadier General Ahmed Al Harthy is the head of the Ministry of Interior’s Smart Services and Artificial Intelligence Council. He has been instrumental in bringing the new smart service to life and is enthusiastic about its future. He recently stated that the service would bring the Ministry of Interior closer to fulfilling its vision of a smart technology-assisted government.
The chairman of the Automobile and Touring Club has also enthused about the new service, stating that it makes “the process of application… simple”. He also said that drivers “can refer to the smart app for the legal requirements while driving abroad”.
If you’re planning on using the new smart service to apply for an international license, you may wish to consider investing in a new car that’s better-suited to international driving. Here at Simply Car Buyers, we can help. We’re happy to buy any car, including your current vehicle. Why not sell us your current car to raise the money you need for a new one to take abroad?
Lexus ES 2019 launches in UAE
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comIf you spend any amount of time in the UAE, you will soon see a Lexus pass by. The LS and LC models from this car brand are especially popular for the comfort and style they offer. With this in mind, the latest transport news in the UAE is sure to delight all who live here. Lexus have recently launched the brand new 2019 ES model to build on their already strong sales in the region.
Power and style in one package
If you already drive a Lexus or have ridden in one, you will love the new 2019 ES. It keeps the same Sedan look but with extra technology and elegance to make it sufficiently different. One major point to mention is that Lexus has two different versions of the new car – the ES 300h and the ES 350-F.
What is exciting for motorists in the UAE is that the ES 300h boasts a hybrid engine under the hood that shows Lexus are making a real commitment to sustainable motoring for the future. For any drivers in the region who wish to do the same, the choice of the new ES in a hybrid engine is a real plus.
Any UAE drivers who want a slightly sportier feel and look may instead go for the stylishly full-on 350-F model. This model has a retuned suspension set-up and a more flamboyant feel to make it great fun to drive too. One thing is for sure – whichever version of the new ES you go for, you will love getting behind the wheel in it.
Lexus refinement as standard
One of the things that has made Lexus such a popular manufacturer in the UAE is the way they combine subtle elegance with class and refinement. This has not changed with the latest addition to its line-up. As well as the stunning curves both versions boast, there are up to ten exterior colours to choose from. If you go for the 350-F, there are an extra two in the form of White Nova and Heat Blue.
Both versions of the ES have plenty of room inside and a longer wheelbase for extra comfort. The engine in each is quieter than previous Lexus models thanks to the latest technology used in its design. With prices ranging up to AED 250,000 they are not cheap but then you do get a seriously good car for your money.
Cheaper cars make the UAE used car market thrive
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comCar-Switch, the Dubai-based company, has recently published its findings that the UAE used car market offers better prices than others, which is excellent news for buyers. The rate of depreciation new cars experience is higher than in other markets, meaning that new cars can lose up 30% of their value in their first year after purchase, followed by up to a further 20% each following year.
This is due to a combination of a number of factors relating to Dubai’s general population, which is usually somewhat transient with a higher than normal level of disposable income. In short, this means people buy more new cars more regularly than they do in other parts of the world.
For example, a 2011 Porsche Cayenne is valued at around AED 88,000 in the UAE compared to AED 106,000 in the UK. A 2013 Ford Explorer is around AED 28,500 in the UAE compared to roughly AED 38,000. These savings continue across the board.
But why should you take the depreciation hit? There are great used bargains to be had!
Trading up
What this means for Dubai used car buyers is that more luxurious and prestigious cars are now firmly within the realms of possibility, because it’s almost always luxury vehicles which depreciate the fastest. That means your budget will buy you much more on the used market than the brand new one. It’s also the case that new cars no longer hold as many advantages as they used to, because many dealers now offer finance and warranty extensions on used cars, making them a much safer purchase than they once were.
Naturally, you won’t be able to specify the car’s options to your own personal taste, but the odds are most cars will already have most of the desirable features specified from new anyway.
Caution prevails
Though you can save a lot of money buying on the used market, you still need to keep your wits about you. Ensure you are completely satisfied with the car’s condition and its history before you part with any money. Patience, however, will reward you with the affordable car of your dreams.
How To Register A Classic Car In UAE
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comIt has been announced that as of October 1st, 2018, there will be new registration rules coming into place for classic car owners. These rules will be in addition to the regular registration and testing requirements, so it’s important you’re up to speed.
Here’s everything you need to know.
A split tier system
There are now two tiers of registration for classic vehicles. The first registration entitles the vehicle to be driven on all roads, and will cost AED 400 with an estimated yearly renewal fee in the range of AED 350. This is on the assumption that the vehicle as already passed its necessary tests and the insurance period of 13 months.
The other tier relates to classic cars that are for display purposes only and are under no circumstances allowed to be driven on the roads. Technical tests and insurance policies are required, as is a three-year registration fee of AED 1100, with an estimated renewal fee of AED 1050.
Remember, cars registered in the second tier will be under no circumstances fit to be driven on public roads. If you need to move the vehicle, it will need to be transported on a recovery truck.
Make sure you’re covered
We all love our cars, especially our classics, and so if you want to keep enjoying the beautiful roads the UAE has to offer you’ll need to make sure you’re fully up to speed with the new registration rules that are coming into play.
Failure to do so carries a host of risks. You may be fined, and in certain circumstances your car may even be taken away from you. Therefore, it pays in the long run to spend a little time familiarising yourself with the incoming rules now, and doing what you can to comply with them.
The sooner you get the ball rolling, the sooner your car can be registered properly under the new system. So get all of your car’s details and documents together and, provided your classic passes all the necessary tests, there’s no reason why you can’t be enjoying your wheels in no time.
3 key tips for selling your car quickly in the UAE
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comThe UAE used car market is vibrant and very stable; however, making key mistakes can prevent you from selling your car quickly. Wherever you live in the UAE it’s important to think clearly about the best strategies for shifting your wheels quickly.
Here are three golden rules to help you prevent your car garnering no interest from Dubai used car buyers.
The right advert
Dubai has a host of ways for you to advertise your used car, making sure you do so in the most attractive way to buyers is essential if you want to have a speedy sale.
Your advert needs to be concise, yet informative, and provide all of the key information about the car. That includes a detailed description, overview of service history, any optional extras, and so on.
Take good pictures too. Smartphones these days have high-quality cameras, there’s no excuse for blurry portrait photos. This is your chance to make your car look its best!
Set a realistic price
Obviously, you want to get the most money you can for your car, but the Dubai used car market is thriving and so you have to be willing to set an achievable figure if you’re going to lure a buyer.
Do some research on your car and see what other vehicles are selling for that are a similar age, condition, and carry similar mileage, and account for any haggling. Have a clear bottom figure you’ll accept.
A key mistake people often make is assuming they can charge the same as dealers – this is wrong! Dealers often offer services like warranty and breakdown cover which allows them to charge more.
Be honest
It’s an age-old truism that honesty is the best policy, and it applies to the Dubai used car market as much as it applies anywhere else in the world.
If you have to lie about your car to accentuate the good and hide the bad, then it’s obvious the car has faults. Lying to potential buyers is just going to delay the process even more, so make sure everyone knows exactly what they’ve come to see.
On the other hand, if you want to sell your car quickly and easily, why not get in touch with us at Simply Car Buyers? We buy any car, saving you plenty of time and effort.

Alfa Romeo brings rear wheel drive to the 2019 Stelvio
/in General /by SimplyCarBuyers.comSome exciting car news for fans of Alfa Romeo’s much anticipated SUV, the Stelvio – there are plans afoot to give Alfa’s primary family mover the benefit of rear wheel drive.
The 2019 Stelvio will still offer UAE customers four wheel drive for those who want it and those who feel they need it, but anyone wanting a little more lithe feedback from the handling may have had their prayers answered.
Why a RWD Stelvio makes sense
Four wheel drive can be great for added traction, but unless you know how to handle the car already it can’t always get you out of a sticky situation. When you combine that with the Stelvio’s relative lack of ground clearance and performance accoutrements, it isn’t going to be going off road much.
So, why keep the four wheel drive? A rear wheel drive Stelvio is guaranteed to be lighter than the fall fat model, shaving upwards of 50kg off its original weight. This means the 280 horsepower 2.0 litre four cylinder engine doesn’t have to work quite so hard.
When it arrives in the UAE, the RWD Stelvio is sure to be a rewarding drive.
No sacrifice necessary
UAE customers will still get the benefit of the luxurious Alfa Romeo options list, including an 8.8 inch colour touchscreen and a wide array of connectivity features, so the Stelvio will still be a comfortable choice.
Alfa Romeo has always made drivers’ cars however, and the RWD Stelvio means that parents no longer have to sacrifice driving pleasure just to have the necessary space to carry their children and all their things from one place to another.
With so much electronic stability control it’s unlikely to be a piece of cake to do handbrake turns out of the school gates, but that’s not exactly advisable anyway. However, the lighter driving experience, coupled with the front wheels now freed up to focus on the job of steering, mean handling is sure to be improved.
The new rear wheel drive Stelvio, designated Q2, will be available throughout the UAE for the 2019 model year. Prices are currently unavailable.
