Maid wins car in UAE raffle – then sells it immediately

A Filipina maid who had only been working in the UAE for 11 months has won a luxury BMW car – and with it, her ticket back home.BMW Logo Image

Florinza Santos entered a raffle held by UAE Exchange recently and their Facebook video revealed her as the winner of a BMW 3-Series this week. This will dwarf the earnings she has made through her job in the short time she has been in the country.

Ms Santos described herself as “blessed and extremely happy” after being announced as the winner of this brilliant new car. She then stunned watchers by announcing she has no interest in keeping the car, and will instead be selling it immediately to fund her flight back to the Philippines.

She added that she plans to use the money raised to build a house and start a business in the Philippines. She can expect to fetch around AED 130,000 for the brand new car but if she is looking for a quick deal, she may have to settle for less. With the current exchange rate meaning 1 AED is worth 14.44 Philippine pesos, she can expect to take home around 1,877,200 pesos. One would think she might be quite popular when she gets home.

If you’re looking for a knock-down price on a BMW 3-Series in the UAE, get in touch with Florinza Santos before she leaves, as she may not yet have found a buyer!

Alternatively, UAE Exchange announced that another three BMW luxury cars are set to be given away in the coming weeks, so if you feel lucky then entering their competition is another route to getting your hands on a brand new BMW.

If you are buying or selling cars in UAE, remember to be vigilant and never accept a personal cheque as payment. Cars can’t be sold if they have any outstanding loans on them, so be sure to check them out thoroughly first.

Or, just follow this Filippino maid’s example and win one in a competition. That’s one hassle-free way of buying a car in the UAE.

Lexus UX200 on sale throughout the UAE

Compact crossovers are becoming a highly popular segment throughout the world, but particularly in the UAE. The reasons for that are fairly obvious – they offer an elevated driving position, a little more rear/storage room, and a more sure-footed drive. All in a package that’s not much larger than a standard hatchback.

It’s no wonder then that they’re so popular. Lexus has dipped their toe into the compact crossover market with the highly-praised and recently released NX200. Lexus cars are known for their exceptional quality – is the NX200 fit to carry that mantle?

Attractive, modern design

The NX200 has been designed by Chika Kako, the Executive Vice President of Lexus International, and it certainly sports a unique look. Lexus in recent years have taken on a more angular, aggressive appearance and the NX200 is no different – build on Lexus’ Global Compact Architecture platform.

120 LEDs form the light bar which dominates the rear portion of the NX200, which seeks to provide a distinctive brush of Lexus. This means it will be easy to differentiate from the competition. Its relatively compact dimensions mean it will also be easy to park.Sell Lexus In Dubai

The NX200 has 13 exterior colours available, of which 2 are F-Sport trim exclusive. It includes 3 brand new colours – Celestial Blue Glass Flake, Blazing Carnelian Contrast Layering, and Terrane Khaki Mica Metallic.

2 new colour options join the interior specification, Cobalt and White Ash, making for eight in total. This includes the exclusive Flare Red.

The power

Lexus cars are generally designed for reliability and smoothness rather than outright performance, and that seems to be the case with the NX200. A four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine will provide the power.

This is connected to the wheels via a new D-CVT (Direct-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission) which has 10 speeds. This should provide improvements in both overall fuel economy and comfort when touring long distances.

The NX200 will be available in three trim levels throughout the UAE – Premier, F Sport, and F Sport Platinum. Prices begin, inclusive of VAT, at AED 150,000 rising to AED 180,00 depending on options and the overall level of specification.

Upcoming car festivals in Dubai 2019

Driving high-end autos is more of a culture than it is a passion for most Gulfianites. In fact, being on Dubai roads feels like seating in the front row of a luxury car parade. And there is, practically, no better way to celebrate this love for cars, than putting all the big brands in one place for all to enjoy.

Popularly known as car festivals, these events are so hot that they attract top officials such as His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai. And over 100,000 visitors who are either looking for networking opportunities or their next set of wheels.

Automechanika – 10th to 12th June 2019

With 17 ongoing events in 16 countries, Automechanika is undoubtedly the biggest B2B trade expo brand in the automotive industry. This company boasts of having a solid 50+ years worth of experience, over 21 000 exhibitors, and more than 600 000 visitors.

Their Dubai event happens after every two years, and it attracts just about everyone in the industry, from spare part manufacturers to recycling and servicing companies. There’s no better place to network with key regional and international suppliers. Or simply having a closer look at your dream car.

On the flip side, Automechanika may not be so fascinating for thrill-seeking petrolheads. It’s more of a corporate event, so it is best suited for people in the automotive business.

The Dubai International Motor Show – 12th to 16th November 2019

Officiated by over 600 brands selling cars in UAE, the Dubai International Motor Show is designed to draw a broader audience as it features all sorts of rides – from supercars to commercial vehicles and bikes plus a bit of raw action.

During this three day event, the routine is pretty much the same. Gates open at 3:30 pm, after which all the cars line up ready to jump-start the festival. There are a couple of minutes set aside for the opening ceremony which is followed by stunt drifting, a rev battle, car pull competition then the muscle car exit. Of course, these four activities are the highlights of the whole event.

The Milan Red has been a highly anticipated release and looking at the details of its state-of-the-art construction and design, it’s easy to see why.

The Milan Red packs some serious power with an impressive 6.2-litre engine and features a V-8 quad turbo that results in the supercar being able to produce a huge 1,325 horsepower. With so much power under the hood and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, the supercar can reach speeds of 0 to 60 km/h in an impressive 2.5 seconds. Manufacturer Milan Automotive GmBh also claims that the supercar can hit the heights of 200 km/h in 5.5 seconds and a rapid 299 km/h in under 10 seconds.

In order to optimise the top speed of the Milan Red, it is manufactured with a carbon wishbone that brings the weight of the vehicle down to a respectable 1,300kg. With all that power under the hood, buyers will be reassured the manufacturer hasn’t held back on the braking system. The 20-inch front and 21-inch back aluminium wheels are equipped with carbon and ceramic brakes.

A remarkable feature of the Milan Red is its internal display. The gorgeous interior is equipped with a display on the dashboard that shows a visual of the driver’s current heartbeat. With a top speed of 467 kph, the Milan Red is sure to get the heartbeats racing of many drivers.

The Milan Red is another fantastic addition to the range of supercars available in the UAE. What may prove too much for some is the whopping 7.9 million AED price tag.

UAE challenged to reduce road deaths further

Road deaths in the UAE have dropped significantly in the last decade according to a recent report from the World Health Organisation (WHO), but the government has been challenged to do more to reduce fatalities on the emirate’s roads.

The Global Status on Road Safety 2018 report published in early December says there are now almost three million cars on the UAE roads with cars and light vehicles making up the highest proportion of that figure. The research also highlights that such modes of transport, along with pedestrians, account for the largest number of deaths on the emirate’s roads.

Road deaths remain a significant killer

The number of deaths from road traffic accidents has fallen significantly in the last 10 years. There were 725 deaths from motoring accidents in 2016. Road fatalities have dropped from 17 per 100,000 people in the UAE in 2007 to just five a decade on but the WHO have challenged authorities to reduce that number further down to three.

The report, which takes a global view of road deaths, found that though the number of fatalities has increased across the world, the number has remained largely relative to population growth. The research also highlights that road traffic accidents remain the leading killer of young adults and children worldwide. Deaths on the roads are the eighth largest killer of people of all ages.

The challenge to the UAE

The research highlights that of all road traffic accidents in the UAE, three quarters of the victims are men. Proactive measures to combat drink driving, speeding and use of seat belts are recommended by the WHO but so too is a renewed focus on encouraging more people to use public transport.

The report revealed that the UAE is one of the toughest places in the world to clamp down on speeding and on enforcement of drink driving laws. Tailgaiting, failing to leave a safe distance to the car in front and driver error remain the major causes of deaths on the UAE roads.

The numbers of car owners in the UAE remains highest in the richer emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Fatalities on the roads remains a major reason that the UAE has a lower life expectancy than that in comparable countries.

Temporary Tesla showroom to arrive in the UAE

The revolution for electric cars hasn’t escaped Dubai. There’s no greater figurehead for the rise in development and use of electric cars than Tesla. The Californian company is making enormous inroads into pushing its electric vehicles into every market it can, and Dubai is no exception.

With that in mind, the main Tesla retail outlet and service centre is currently open on Skeikh Zayed Road. A 220-square-foot temporary showroom has recently found a home in the Mall of Emirates, however, to help further cement Tesla’s place in the local automotive scene.

Learning about the brand

This temporary showroom is currently planned to stay in place until February next year. In the showroom, you’ll be able to get up close and personal with two of the brand’s flagship models. Both the super-saloon Model S and incredibly fast SUV, Model X, will be displayed in this temporary showroom.

One of the key goals of the showroom is to encourage prospective buyers to learn more about the brand, its history, and where it’s going in the future. Those interested in Tesla’s more affordable mass-market offering, the Model 3, will also be able to learn more. The Model 3 is due to hit the streets of Dubai starting Q1 2019.

Tesla taking hold

Tesla is gradually increasing its presence in Dubai, which has traditionally favoured more gas-guzzling performance and luxury vehicles. Tesla seems to be changing that perception, however, with more models in a range of popular segments.

The Dubai Green Mobility Initiative may help Tesla further cement their place in Dubai. The Roads and Transport Authority has added 125 to their fleet of taxis this year, and there are rumours there may even be Tesla police cars sooner rather than later.

All over the world, Tesla is becoming more and more renowned as a trailblazer in all manner of electric vehicles. From more affordable hatchbacks, to ultra-luxurious SUVs, and even a face-melting performance roadster, there’s a Tesla for everyone.

If you’re interested in learning more, pay a visit to the temporary Tesla showroom in the Mall of Emirates any time until February 2019.

3 notable car launches to look out for in 2019

With Gulfiates having more cars per capita than New York and London, it’s obvious that all the big names in the motor industry will want to have UAE on their launch schedules.

Toyota seems to be the most popular brand for the middle and low-income earners, followed closely by Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Hyundai. However, the growth of the upscale market has seen luxury cars like Tesla, AstonMartin, and Maserati record an increase in sales lately.

Even so, more brands are looking to get a share of this luxurious market. So here are the top 3 car launches expected in 2019.

2019 Audi S4

Powered by a 354 –hp turbo 3-liter V-6 engine with 8-speed automatic transmission, the S4 can move from 0 to 100km/h in a whopping 4.7 seconds. That coupled with standard massaging front seats and premium interior finishes, makes this sedan one of the entries to look out for in 2019.

The estimated price for this car is AED 188,805, and it’s expected to launch in June 2019.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Being a direct competitor to the Chevy Silverado, this GMC comes with an impressive mix of luxury, power and ravishing looks that could blow any truck lover away. Powered by a 6.2-litre V8; 10-speed automatic transmission, this truck can tow 5.4 tons without breaking a sweat.

New Lincoln MKC arrives in UAE

Thanks to its combination of rugged terrain and aspirational ideals, the UAE is the perfect place to own and drive a luxury SUV. It’s unsurprising, therefore, that SUV enthusiasts in the UAE are excited about the recent release of the 2019 Lincoln MKC. The latest versions of the high-end, compact SUV cross-over were imported into the UAE earlier this month. But is it worth the investment? While the Lincoln brand doesn’t have the same level of prestige as Mercedes or Bentley, the 2019 MKC is likely to attract a number of enthusiastic buyers.

Dubai TrafficOne of the reasons for this is that the vehicle combines a compact design with a surprisingly high performance. It boasts a horsepower of 245hp, which is provided by a 2-litre, turbo-charged engine. This impressive figure means that it has the raw power needed to tackle the UAE’s less driver-friendly landscapes. However, its smaller size means that it can also negotiate city roads with ease. What’s more, depending on where you plan on using the vehicle, it’s available with either all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive.

According to the car review website ‘The Car Connection’, the Lincoln also has “quality interior materials” and looks better than its predecessors.

However, the MKC isn’t perfect. It is a little less fuel-efficient than many of its competitors, including the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. It’s only capable of 27 miles per gallon when travelling on open, unobstructed highways and 20mpg when driving in cities. It’s also worth noting that the vehicle isn’t being manufactured in the UAE at present. It’s therefore only available from import dealers, which means that it may be more expensive than some of its rivals.

Nonetheless, if you’re an SUV enthusiast in the market for a new car, the Lincoln may appeal to you. It might cost a little more and use more fuel than its rivals, but its unique look and powerful driving capabilities might make this UAE newcomer a worthwhile investment. If you do choose to invest in the Lincoln MKC, we can help you with the costs. Here at Simply Car Buyers, we buy any car that our customers want to sell. Why not sell your old vehicle to raise money for your next one?

12th generation Toyota Corolla coming to the UAE

Over 46 million Corollas have been built by Toyota since the model made its début in 1966, making it one of the most successful cars of all time. Toyota is, understandably, looking to continue this tradition for popularity within the UAE market with the 12th generation of the Corolla.

The Corolla has always found fans from all corners of the UAE. People who just want a reliable, affordable and inoffensive way of getting from A to B love them. Petrolheads have much to appreciate in how well engineered and stress-free the Corolla is to own too.

Coming in the 2020 Corolla

As a part of the drive to modernise their line-up, Toyota has provided a whole new styling update for the Corolla, giving it a purposeful look. It also now benefits from a host of technology and driving aids as standard.

The new Corolla is lighter, safer, and is sure to offer good fuel economy. LED headlights and taillights, a brand new integrated diffuser in the rear bumper, and extra exhaust tip provide some impressive styling cues.

Slimmer A-pillars aid visibility, while the 8-inch colour touchscreen features Toyota’s Entune 3.0 software. Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.0 comes as standard, which provides pre-collision alert and brake-assist.

Dynamic cruise control, lane-departure assist, lane-centring steering, auto high-beams, and traffic sign recognition are also present. Blind-spot monitoring is also available, depending on trim.

Driving the wheels

The current 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in the current Corolla will still be offered in the 12th-generation car. There is also a brand new 2.0-litre engine available, offering 169 horsepower and a Dynamic-Shift CVT.

The Corolla is never a car to set the world on fire. You likely won’t bound out of your front door in the morning looking forward to your next journey. But, whatever you need to do, the Corolla will always get you to your destination and back home.

Drab and dreary plastics and an uninspiring drive have traditionally been the price to pay for this reliability. But, the 12th-generation Corolla seems to be making great strides in developing a personality to match its ability.
