MG Motors has a history of building beautiful and interesting, if slightly flakey, sports cars. In recent years, the brand has tried to revitalise itself with a range of new models which they hope will match up to the heritage of the MG name.

Now MG has models across various sectors. One of these is the MG6, and you can now buy a 2019 model in the UAE.

It’s all in the details

The MG6 is gunning for a premium and sporty feel. Looking to the exterior, the nose is dominated by the “Star Rider” grille, along with various carbon fibre detail points and LED headlights for optimum visibility. There’s also a rather attractive chrome trim and 18-inch alloy wheels with low resistance tyres.

In the interior, there’s a host of in-car entertainment and technology options, designed to compete with other models in the segment. The centre console houses an 8-inch touchscreen to navigate the various infotainment options that are available.

Standard kit is reasonably impressive – Apple Carplay, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless entry and go, a reverse camera, and an onboard tyre pressure monitoring system. The boot space is also reasonably good, with 424 litres available, rising to 1170 litres with the back seats folded down.

The engine

MG has always been known for reasonably small but peppy engines in their sports cars. The MG6 is powered by a four-cylinder 1.5-litre engine that offers 169 horsepower. Hardly face melting, but respectable numbers from a family saloon car.

The engine is connected to a dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox, giving the car a 0-100km/h time of 7 seconds. It may not win any awards at the dragstrip, but it should be peppy enough to get away from the lights in reasonably swift fashion. Eco, Normal, and Sports modes are available, with a fourth Individual setting for drivers who want to customise their own setups.
